Vintage LITTLE BLACK SAMBO magic lantern COMPLETE 27 glass SLIDE Set w/ story. But these look in very good condition EXCEPT for slide #2 of Black Mumbo, which is cracked vertically. Maybe this was used by teachers in classrooms, etc?

Each slide is securely numbered and labeled, and has what looks like a black tape edging - not sure if that's original or not, but looks factory made... Or at least very professionally done. Under the glass you can see on many of them a handwritten corresponding number.

I see no other markings or brand names, etc. These are the graphics of Sambo from the original Helen Bannerman book printed by Grant Richards starting in 1899 - the ones many of us older folks are familiar with :.

She wrote and Illustrated the book while for her children while on a long train ride in India. Her story takes place in India, with Indian characters, and this Sambo does look less "African American" than he was often depicted in later versions of the story, although his parents do look more "African American" than him.

More modern versions of the story have them looking much more like they are from India.
